About Mark Bailey

Quality with a conscience…

Conscience without compromise

Bailey Guitars started in 1998 in a double decker bus and has grown to become one of the UK’s most experienced instrument makers. Mark and Carol have gained a reputation for their friendly, ‘go the extra mile’ service, and for making exquisite, high quality, hand made instruments.

Mark moved in 2003 to his dedicated workshop in the beautiful Ayrshire hills and specialises in custom guitars, jazz arch tops, acoustics & ukuleles. Attention to detail and player’s requirements are top priority.

Bailey builds exceptional instruments, with traditional methods and 21st century thinking, seeking out the best timbers, where possible using native and reclaimed materials, and using only renewable energy (much of which is self generated)

Chosen by Preston Reed, the “father” of percussive acoustic playing, to create a new baritone guitar, Bailey now makes two signature Preston Reeds – their unique designs are hand crafted, made to order and featuring the unique Heathergems inlays (made from Scottish Heather by an Irvine based company).

In 2016 these guitars are to be featured by a leading US guitar boutique, signalling the start of a new international chapter in the Bailey story.

Mark built an international reputation for his “Build Your Own” guitar making courses. Hundreds of individual guitars have been made by absolute beginners from all over the world, which has given Mark a unique diversity of building experience. In 2017 he launched his ground breaking, online video courses – the 21st century equivalent of a workshop manual – to 5 star reviews.

Bailey produce timeless heirloom pieces, with amazing playability and tone, built to the highest standard in Scotland with only renewables

Principles don’t come cheap, but the results are priceless
