HOW DO I START?? Once
you have had a look at the website - think about the guitar you
want to build. Looks, sounds, and how it should play. The choices are
endless, so give some thought to what you really want. Have a look at
the gallery ("What do they look like" ) for
inspiration. Try some out in shops, talk to other players, find out
what your favourite players use - it all helps to understand the
choices. You
can also buy Mark's DVD/video which follows two students through the
building of their guitars, from blocks of wood to the first chord -
this will give you a good idea of what is involved and about some of
the choices -. Get
a quote (see the "What's it cost" page)- that will give you a
rough idea of the likely budget and the time it will take. If the
budget is an issue, talk to Mark about how you might upgrade later, to
spread the cost - perhaps by using less expensive hardware initially.
If you don't see what you want - give him a call. Start by aiming for
what you would really like to create. Don't feel limited by ability or
lack of inexperience - you can and will build it ! Work
up your spec - talk to Mark if you need to. You can always visit to
discuss your design, or see a course in action - just give him a call. The
courses generally run over a weekend, and usually include a bank
holiday or two - Usually starting on a Friday through to the
following Tuesday - though it's all pretty flexible. You can spread it
out, or not, as you like, but I would suggest booking well in advance
to make sure of particular dates. Once
you have decided, then get in touch (see the Contact
Us
page) and give the details of your guitar specification, and dates
you are free to come. To confirm a place all Baileys need is a completed
application form returned with a 20% deposit - and then you can start
counting down the days.
