How to Build Your Own Guitar

This is a our weekend course, designed for people who want to learn more about the theory and practicalities of building a guitar, and perhaps have a go at home. It will be practical and hands on, but you WILL NOT make a guitar to take away – one will be made collectively by the group. It aims to be mainly a learning experience.

This course is ideal for teachers with existing woodwork skills, who want to enable students to design and build guitars as a project, but need guidance.

There will be a maximum of six people on people on this course.

By the end of the course you will:

  • understand how a guitar is constructed
  • have seen and experienced every stage in the guitar building process
  • have had hands on experience of many of the jobs and tools
  • be aware of Health and Safety issues
  • have completed a full scale drawing of the 6 string electric being built
  • have had your guitar building questions answered
  • understand better what you will need to do personally and practically to build at home
  • have a drawing, notes and instructional materials to take away and use
